SODAGREEN

20th ANNIVERSARY ASIAN TOUR

Taiwanese indie powerhouse, Sodagreen, started an extraordinary journey to commemorate two decades of musical excellence with their Twenty Years Moment concert tour.

Following a nine-year hiatus from touring, Sodagreen is making a triumphant return to the stage dazzling audiences across China.

At the heart of this spectacular journey lies the visionary creativity of London-based  award-winning design studio, FRAY. With an innovative blend of technology and artistry, FRAY has crafted a transcendent visual experience that elevates Sodagreen’s performance to new heights.

Thanks to Motif PR we had the opportunity to talk with Grant James Orchard (creative director - United Creative Works) Sam Tozer (lighting designer - Vision Factory) and Finn Ross (video designer - FRAY Design).

As said by Grant, the concept for the show are the seasons, as a metaphor for the different eras of the band’s career. The stage is like a dynamic magical box with a 360° audience point of view. The stage is designed for big arenas and is characterized by a solid structure with four huge legs, used effectively as part of the lighting. Talking to Grant, the great capacity of the entire team was to hide this structure in order to create a minimalistic stage, capable of transforming itself, song after song, into a well thought out set of lights, colors and sounds of different levels.

The favorite part of Grant are the 4 interludes, that with the 20 songs of the lineup of the show are all performed in the round on a giant automated LED floor with scenic and flown items. Made up of entirely video, the floor has five large ramps that move up and down, supported by transparent screens that flow from the stage and can be seen from all angles allowing for a layered and hazy look. A crazy challenge for the video content. As said by Finn, the real effort was to design the content from everyone’s point of view. A challenge complicated also by the difficulty to non distort the meaning of non western words. Challenges successfully passed thanks to the great use of perspective. All in a brilliant synchronization with the lights by Sam meshed with Sodagreen’s sound.

An example of a beautiful well done project by great professional show designers capable of bringing their work experience to Asia, a country not used to touring like in Europe or US.

Special thanks to Motif PR.
