ART OF VICTORY - NIKE

CENTRE POMPIDOU - PARIS

For the Summer of Sport 2024 in Paris, Nike has partnered with the iconic contemporary art museum, Centre Pompidou. This collaboration is especially meaningful, as the museum’s distinctive exterior famously inspired the design of the first Air Max 1 shoe.

Almost four decades after introducing its groundbreaking Air technology, Nike returns to these roots with Art of Victory, an immersive exhibition inside Gallery 4 of the Centre Pompidou. The exhibition traces the evolution of Air technology while offering a glimpse into its future, showcasing how innovation continues to push athletic performance to new heights.

Designed by Random Studio, the exhibition translates Nike’s legacy of innovation into a multisensory experience. Visitors are taken on a journey through the development of Air technology, illustrating how constant advancements in design and engineering have shaped modern sportswear. The installation bridges the worlds of art, technology, and athleticism, highlighting Nike’s ongoing influence on both fashion and performance.

Upon entering, visitors are enveloped in a bold, orange-lit corridor where an immersive soundscape reinforces Nike’s dedication to supporting athletes. This leads into a starkly contrasting, futuristic space featuring an extensive archive of Air technology. More than a thousand illuminated air units line the walls, framing 25 cabinets that display a curated selection of iconic Nike footwear. The exhibit highlights key designs, pivotal moments, and personal anecdotes, illustrating how Air technology has shaped the history of sports and performance.

The final section, Future on A.I.R., introduces a collection of AI-generated sneakers, each uniquely tailored to a top athlete, including stars like Sha’Carri Richardson and Kylian Mbappé. Encased in frosted vitrines with internal illumination, the designs appear to float, showcasing various iterations of the creative process. Each vitrine synchronizes with digital projections on the back wall, which cycle through the stories of the 13 featured athletes, creating a dynamic, evolving narrative.
