ECLIPSE
BRUSSELS - BELGIUM
Eclipse is an analog light installation that generates an abstract representation of an eclipse.
The project was initiated through research on astronomical phenomena and aims to reproduce, in an abstract manner, the simple yet powerful visual effects occurring during a solar eclipse.
In 2022, the concept was further developed for a Halloween event organised by Hangar in Brussels. Since an eclipse remains an everlasting symbol of this celebration, the event was the ideal occasion to debut the project.
As with many of their stage designs, ERASED STUDIO explores the interaction between light, physical elements and mechanical movements. An approach that questions the overwhelming and omnipresent use of LED screens and digital content in the Nightlife and event industry. ECLIPSE embodies a captivating and mesmerising visual experience through a minimalistic and refined stage design.
The project features a bright 4m diameter circle backlit by three powerful spots. This circle is overlapped by a 4m diameter blackout circle mounted on a rail, allowing the structure to move. The movement and varying positions of this installation produce the desired multitude of lighting effects.
During the initial part of the evening, the eclipse effect remained static, and the audience could only see the silhouette of the installation. After a few hours, the mechanical movement was activated, creating a surprise effect and unveiling a new chapter in the event.
Founded by the designer duo Elliott Housiaux and Paul Emile De Smedt, ERASED STUDIO has a creative vision based on architectural thinking. Their rigorous, highly aesthetic approach binds each project together.
