BEAT AND BEER FESTIVAL - FRANCE
A raw, generative language between light, material and sound. When light becomes architecture, the stage becomes a living sculpture.
At the intersection of sculpture and stage design, FEU explores the expressive potential of simplicity. Created by Studio Candela for the 2026 edition of Beat and Beer Festival, the installation challenges conventional stage geometries, transforming a minimal set of linear elements into a dynamic, almost instinctive form.
Built around the idea of low resolution, FEU embraces a deliberately reduced visual language. Repeated yellow elements extend across the space in an arrangement that appears anarchic at first glance, yet reveals an underlying structure. The result is a sculptural composition that feels raw, modular and generative — a system capable of producing visual complexity through the repetition of a single gesture.
A geometry in motion
Rather than relying on rigid orthogonality or monumental architectural volumes, FEU takes movement as its starting point. Its form evokes a current of energy, an irregular flow that seems to crackle and expand like fire. The installation does not simply frame the performance; it becomes an active presence within it.
At the centre of this composition, the DJ occupies a position of relative stillness, embedded within a structure that appears to move around them. This contrast between the static figure and the visual dynamism of the surrounding space creates a compelling tension, shifting the stage from a conventional backdrop into an immersive sculptural environment.
The power of one material
The technical approach follows the same principle of reduction that defines the overall concept: how can a powerful visual identity emerge from extremely limited means?
The answer lies in a simple LED tube housed within a yellow polycarbonate tube made from reused material. Controlled via DMX, the lighting system transforms this elementary construction into a distinctive visual language, allowing light, colour and repetition to work together as a unified composition.
Minimal and monochromatic, the installation demonstrates how a single material, when pushed beyond its conventional function, can generate both architectural presence and atmosphere. Technology remains integrated into the design rather than becoming an end in itself. The emphasis is on the sculptural potential of light and on the relationship between individual elements and the space they collectively define.
Raw. Scalable. Generative.
FEU is conceived not as a fixed image, but as a system. Its modular logic allows the composition to be understood as a repeatable vocabulary — one that can expand, adapt and generate new spatial configurations.
In this sense, the project proposes a different approach to stage design: one in which impact does not depend on complexity, but on the strength of an idea. Through repetition, material restraint and a precise relationship between light and form, Studio Candela creates an environment that is at once graphic and physical, structured and unpredictable. For Beat and Beer Festival 2026, FEU becomes more than a stage structure. It is an exploration of how a minimal set of elements can shape perception, activate space and translate the energy of music into a tangible form.
A sculpture that does not stand still, but burns, flows and generates movement.
