A Monumental Debut: Martin Garrix Lights Up Red Rocks Amphitheater
Martin Garrix’s first-ever run at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre was nothing short of historic. Originally announced as a two-nights show on October 22nd and 23th, 2025, the shows sold out so quickly that a third night: October 24th was added to meet overwhelming demand. For Garrix, performing at the world-famous venue carved into the Colorado Rockies was a lifelong dream fulfilled. He described Red Rocks as a “dream venue” and a “bucket list” moment, having grown up watching some of music’s most iconic performances take place on its storied stage.
The space was a “high-altitude playground of light, sound and emotion,” transforming the venue into a multi-sensory spectacle that reflected both the majesty of the surroundings and the energy of his music.
Each of the three nights offered fans something special. The shows opened with a brand-new intro sequence, a video montage that traced Garrix’s journey from a teenage bedroom producer to global superstar. The emotional visuals, intercut with fan footage and news clips, built to an explosive drop that launched the show into overdrive. On the second night, the crowd was treated to a surprise back-to-back set with Marshmello, the duo blending mainstream pop hits with heavier, trap-influenced drops that sent shockwaves through the amphitheatre. The final night took things to another level as Garrix reunited with Alesso for their first full B2B set since their 2023 festival appearance.
Behind the decks, Garrix’s team turned Red Rocks’ natural architecture into an integral part of the experience. The custom production featured his signature cross-stage design, an immense LED wall, and a dazzling array of strobes, lasers, and fire columns that lit up the Colorado night. The result was a show that didn’t just play to the venue’s grandeur it amplified it.
We had the opportunity to talk with Gabriel Fraboni, Martin’s creative and show director for more than ten years. The production design for Martin Garrix’s Red Rocks debut was shaped through a close collaboration between Romain Pissenem of High Scream and Gabriel. Together they revisited the plus structure first introduced in 2018 at Ushuaïa Ibiza and rebuilt it specifically for Red Rocks. The design began with a precise 45 degree rotation of the plus so the geometry aligned with the steep rake of the amphitheatre. This kept the natural architecture of the venue visible and allowed the rock formations to remain an active part of the visual experience.
A major conceptual evolution defined this new version of the design. Historically, Martin Garrix performed at the base of the plus. For Red Rocks, the creative team decided he needed to be placed at the center. The entire stage architecture was built around him. His DJ platform was suspended inside the heart of the plus so the performance felt as though it radiated outward from a single focal point. This shift created a stronger connection between the artist and the structure, and it reinforced the plus not only as a graphic symbol but as the core of the production’s identity.
To amplify the central form without overwhelming the venue, the design introduced three layers of echo frames using Acme Tornados. These echoes extended the presence of the plus and added depth, movement and a sense of expansion to the stage. The layered system created a visual rhythm that reacted to the music while still maintaining a clean architectural outline.
Because Red Rocks is a natural amphitheatre, the team selected ROE Vanish LED to preserve transparency and allow the cliffs and sky to remain visible through the structure. The content appeared to float in front of the environment instead of blocking it. This choice treated the venue as part of the design rather than a backdrop to be covered.
The final result was a production that honored the history of Garrix’s stage language while elevating it for one of the most iconic venues in the world. By placing Martin Garrix at the center of the geometry and building the entire visual framework outward from that point, the design achieved a sense of intentionality, scale and environmental respect that defined the Red Rocks shows as a landmark moment in his live career.
Martin Garrix’s debut at Red Rocks wasn’t just another stop on tour; it was a landmark moment, both for the artist and for electronic music itself, a fusion of nature, technology, and human connection that will be remembered as one of his most defining performances to date.
