Transforming the Ocaso Logo into an Immersive Stage Experience
The design process for the stage began with a vision to transform the Ocaso logo, featuring the Sea Turtle, into an immersive and larger-than-life experience. The design team combined geometric patterns with projection mapping to bring the Sea Turtle to life, using custom-created content for the event. By projecting onto the main stage surface, the projections blended nature with psychedelic visuals, creating a striking contrast against the lush Costa Rican jungle backdrop.
Concept and Construction
Leading the stage concept and design was Jaron Drucker from the TECTONIC Team (@tectonicteam), who collaborated with local natural wood designer Callen Girard (@callenrainier) and projection mapping artist Oliver Allaux (@oliver.allaux). Builder Hans Hernandez (@hanshm91) and his local materials company, Piedra Bamboomadera (@piedrabamboomadera), played an essential role in bringing the design to fruition. The construction featured a 20m x 30m scaffolding structure, serving as the foundation for an intricate mix of bamboo splits, dry branches, and over 100 plywood shapes. All materials were sourced from the surrounding Costa Rican jungle, making this project a true collaboration between the local building crew and an international AV team.
Visuals and Lighting
The stage utilized two Epson Pro L 25k projectors, casting projections onto the TECTONIC Team's design. A 5x2m, 3.9mm LED screen was incorporated into the center of the turtle’s shell, depicting a third eye, mirroring the Ocaso logo’s design. SlickBeam lasers were used to map the stage surface in synergy with the projections. The production also featured ten 25W lasers, two audience scanners, and a range of hybrids, strobes, washes, and LED bars to enhance the atmosphere and illuminate the stage, creating dynamic movement for the crowd.
Audio System
Audio was powered by a Funktion-One system from ShowTec, which included twelve Evo 7T, two Evo 7 TH, eight F221, and four Res 2 speakers. All sound was amplified by LabGruppen PLM20K44 units, processed by the Lake Processor DSP, and managed through a Yamaha CL5 audio desk.
