PLANET K30 FESTIVAL
Multimedia arts duo Broken Composers invited the public to experience music in a new way – by turning a musical composition into a large-scale multimedia installation.
A 20 meter wide broken polygonal structure, light, and smoke create a chaotic building that continues a series of large-scale works. Each piece interacted with the visitor, aiming to pull them out of everyday routine thoughts.
The artists also became part of this structure and literally one of the sources of light, performing a risky theatrical act, moving around the structure in elaborate costumes. Like particles in the magnetic trap of a collider, the crowd pulses and moves, making each audience member a particle in their own right – asking them whether they’ll preserve their uniqueness or surrender to the crowd.
After a few days, the structure disappeared, leaving its digital trace – music on streaming platforms, track cover, photos, and a music video. By combining different mediums of work, Broken Composers set themselves apart by pushing the boundaries of each form. Like with Solid Revolver, the interdisciplinary duo create works that invite audiences to question the way they interact with art.
A few questions to the authors, Vitaly Yurtaev and Kirill Rave:
SDM: Tell us how you work on an installation. What is more primary, the idea or the space of realization?
If only you knew what kind of rubbish an installation comes from. Everything affects everything here. Architecture, light and music must merge in ecstasy and fertilize each other.
SDM: Do you have any expectations about how the installation will be perceived by visitors?
It's a surprise for us, too, and we can't be prepared for it. We recommend tuning in, coming and getting stuck, moving around in circles.
SDM: You talk abou total "digitalization and liberation from the body" as the next human stage. Do you think total digitalization is a magical future or a path to nowhere?
Total digitalization is a path to a magical nowhere! It may seem like a joke, but it's not a joke at all.
Thank you
